Increase Virtual Memory

Virtual Memoryis a file (page file) used by Kernel, Windows extensions and other applications to extend the capacity of RAM - Random Access Memory.
 
Look at the memory types, which sorted descending by their speed of Read and Write.

 1.L1 and L2 caches.
 2. RAM
 3.Registry Hives
 4.Virtual Memory
 
L1 and L2 cachesare in Processor and fixed. RAM is a also a fixed memory. Registry is a place to store settings and cannot be used as a memory for RAM.

When Windows (or Linux) installing , the setup automatically sets a value to Virtual Memory .(page file/swap file.)
 
The default value for virtual memory when windows installs is 1.5 of RAM.(Ex: 192 Mb in virtual memory for a RAM of 128 Mb)
 
The default virtual memory size is enough for those who wish to use their computer, - turn on, play music, watch a movie, visit Texby.com, play Pin Ball or minesweeper and then shut down..:)
 
 
Actually, virtual memory is a file in system root, named page file. 
System root is C: by default. Attributes are hidden and system
 
To change the size of virtual memory ,

1. Right Click the My Computer icon and choose Properties.
2. Click Advanced tab.
3. In the first frame , click on Settings which refer to virtual memory . 
4. Click on Advanced tab.

 
Then, enter the new value to virtual memory and then press OK to all and then Restart if required, windows will request to restart only if your processor do not support that feature to live changes of pagefile. (Please read memory-setting instructions below.) 
 
 Above is not what we need to say you. 
 
You can set the value for virtual memory as you need. But, we strongly recommend you to adjust the initial size to 1 GB maximum and additionally 200 Mb for the maximum value field.. For an example, for a Computer which have 256 Mb for RAM, adjust the initial size as 1024 Mb and 1250 Mb as the maximum value. 
 
For computers which have more than 1 GB for RAM, we recommend you to keep the default size. 
 
You can also use more than one page file for virtual memory. Just click on the other volumes and enter a smaller value for them , in where you type the values for virtual memory.
 
To gain the maximum speed, you need to set the largest page file allocation to the System drive.
 
Do not leave a big difference between initial size and maximum size of virtual memory. We recommend you to use 500 Mb additionally to the initial value , maximum. 
 
Keeping a large virtual memory for a longer time will decrease your computer's speed, because applications and Windows try to use virtual memory for all its needs in memory.(application uses virtual memory instead of RAM. When this occurs, you will get Virtual Memory too minimum to low caution message from windows, even when you set a higher value for virtual memory.) 
When this error occurs, or if you experience slowdown in your computer, set the default value for virtual memory again and restart your computer twice. Then, reset the old value again. 
You will get solved...! 
 
We recommend you to switch on Data Execution Protection.(to enable, you need to go the *Data Execution tab in the settings window for virtual memory. 
 
 
 
We strongly recommend you to set the virtual memory in the disk file system as the operating system installed on.(for those who installed Windows XP typically, set the virtual memory in NTFS disks) 
 
Windows Vista and later versions support setting up virtual memory in External Drives, so take advantage of that.
 
Do not split your virtual memory into more pieces, which will result in system slowdown. 
 
In our testing, Windows Movie Maker uses a larger memory in virtual memory. If you use Windows Movie Makes frequently, we do not recommend you to extend the virtual memory size. 
 
Do not try to delete the page file. 
Your most recent data including stored passwords are stored in the page file. If you need to use very secret things in your computer, you can force windows to reset the page file to zero values. However, page file is a very safe place. If you are watching some videos and pictures ,it is useless to reset page file, which result in system slowdown. We strongly recommend you to keep the default. 
 
You can also let windows to expand the page file as needed. Just choose that option in where you enter the values for virtual memory.
